As part of the Last Call Hospitality Pilot, sharing safety concerns via the #NotMe app is available to ANY person working or socializing in these spaces until May of 2024.

This feature is now open to share experiences in any establishment in Vancouver, not just the ones participating in this pilot.

How does it work?

Workers and patrons can now easily and quickly share things that they witness or experience related to safety. This can be done anonymously if the user wishes and takes aproximately 3 minutes.

To try it out:

  • Download the #NotMe app.

  • Set up an account.

  • Enter the organizational PIN: 5239.

  • Share the details of your concerns and get connected to resources.

Questions:

  • You can submit any incident of harassment or violence that you witness or experience while enjoying or working in Vancouver’s nightlife, music and hospitality spaces.

The aggressor in your experience may be a worker in these spaces or a patron.

    Examples include:

    • Harassment from your boss or manager

    • Being groped in a nightclub by another patron

    • Being followed while waiting for a taxi or ride share

    • A bouncer or establishment staff making comments that make you feel unsafe.

  • Sexual and gender-based harassment in public spaces and society in general is widely under-reported. By sharing your experience, you can help Good Night Out and the City gain better insight into what prevention and response measures such as training, policy change and projects might be needed.  By submitting your experience through #NotMe, you can also be linked with support resources and reporting options.

  • Good Night Out Vancouver will receive all stories submitted via the #Not Me app.

The data is being collected to help identify needs and opportunities to increase worker and patron safety when it comes to gender based and sexualized violence in these spaces. The app is NOT a way to get help in the case of an emergency.

The data will be aggregated (with all identifying information removed) and collected into monthly reports of trends. At the end of this pilot, this data will help the City and Good Night Out explore long-term interventions for community safety.

Users who share their experience can request that GNOV reach out to an establishment on their behalf. This will be done on a case by case basis and only after communicating with the person who has requested this. #NotMe has the functionality to chat anonymously with Good Night Out through the app to discuss options. This tool can also be used to be linked with crisis supports, police and 3rd party reporting and more.

  • Good Night Out will not share the details of any individual experience with the establishment in question without explicit permission from you.

  • GNOV has reviewed the #NotMe Privacy policy in detail. GNOV asked the Officer of the Privacy Commissioner of BC to review the policy as well, who had no comments of concern. #NotMe Privacy considerations adhere to General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) standards, which are understood to be some of the strictest parameters for data collection in the world, exceeding the requirements outlined by Federal laws in Canada.

Some privacy factors GNOV noted as important are:

    • The victims sharing details about harassment on the #NotMe platform own their records for the entirety of the report.

    • Victims can retract their submission and ask for it to be wiped off the system by simply making a request in writing.

    • Submissi can be made via the #NotMe platform anonymously or with a name attached to it.

  • The choice to report a sexual assault is a deeply personal decision. Here are a few important resources for reporting.

If you are in immediate danger, call 911.

You can learn more about how to access police reporting in Vancouver through the newsfeed on the app, or use the in-app messaging feature to be sent resources.
